SUMMARY:Behind the Scenes Experience: the Vera Bluemner Kouba Collection
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of West Volusia Museum Month\, the public is invited to a unique behind-the-scenes experience. View rare items\, including family heirlooms\, that tell the story of Modernist artist Oscar Bluemner (1867-1938) and his family. And visit museum work spaces as staff catalog and digitize each item. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP: \n\n\n\nName *Email Address *RSVP\n\n\n\n\n\nDonated to Stetson University in 1997 by Vera Bluemner Kouba\, the artist’s daughter\, the collection is composed of over 1\,000 works of art and an accompanying assortment of documents\, personal items\, and books\, as well as artwork by artists Bluemner admired. While Bluemner’s own artwork was catalogued in the late 90’s and early 2000s\, with an increasing amount available for online view via our museum database\, family items are only now being processed. This means there is a lot to learn and many exciting mysteries to unlock\, including more information about Vera and her passion for music and the arts. \n\n\n\n\nTo view additional Museum Month events in Volusia County\, go to visitwestvolusia.com

SUMMARY:Exhibit Reception for Scrapped!: A Century of Stetson In Pages
DESCRIPTION:at Gallery duPont \n\n\n\n\n\nCharlotte Holley\, Curator \n\n\n\nDr. Katya Kudryavtseva\, Faculty Mentor \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nScrapped! brings together four scrapbooks—crafted in 1916\, 1947\, 1971\, and 2025—by women who attended Stetson University across four generations. More than personal keepsakes\, these scrapbooks serve as rich archival records\, capturing daily life and their evolving roles over the past century. Through photographs\, clippings\, mementos\, and handwritten notes\, visitors will explore how women documented their identities\, relationships\, and activities within and beyond campus life. Together\, they invite us to reconsider what we preserve\, who does the preserving\, and why it matters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored in part by the LaValle Experiential Learning Fund and the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts.

She has a clear purpose in building and crossing bridges among the arts with a deep focus and balance between artistic practice\, teaching\, activism and invitation for participation. Catherine has spent her life’s work in the arts developing arts curriculum and arts education opportunities for all ages\, abilities and socio-economic backgrounds in all mediums of the visual arts throughout the eastern United States. She is honored to have solid experiences rooted in museum education\, rural advancement\, non-profit arts organizations\, community outreach and working with national and international artists from around the world. Experiences with mediums that provide engagement with nature\, agriculture along with processes and elements of surprise like ceramics\, hand paper making\, printmaking and surface design techniques for fiber arts and textiles are experiences Catherine connects with during her personal art making most. \n\n\n\nCatherine is a practicing and exhibiting artist from North Carolina and shares her hand paper making and natural dye experiences in workshops throughout the United States. Using handmade paper\, raw plant materials and natural plant pigments for dyes in her new pieces Catherine builds and creates three-dimensional works to scaffold thoughts and conversations about agricultural heritage\, community\, preservation\, conservation and land stewardship. Catherine works with seasonal agricultural and garden harvests that she grows or uses during residencies to create handmade paper for layered works that capture the essence of the raw materials she cooks\, pounds\, mixes\, presses and creates with. With a background in printmaking and hand building with clay Catherine enjoys building vessels\, abstract sculptures\, boats and book structures incorporating the papers she creates sometimes using text and printmaking or surface design techniques to suggest or contribute to the story. Tracing the transformation of digital designs into physical objects\, the exhibition highlights 3D printing as a powerful tool for artistic exploration. Through a focus on process\, it invites viewers to reconsider the role of technology in contemporary artmaking. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuncan Gallery\, sampson hall \n\n\n\nWe Were Children Once … and Soldiers \n\n\n\nCurated by Emil Rasen\, Faculty mentor: Dr. Katya Kudryavtseva \n\n\n\nConceptualized and produced by Emil Rasen\, We Were Children Once … and Soldiers diorama reimagines a war-torn landscape inhabited by toy soldiers\, confronting the contrast between childhood play and the grim reality of warfare. At its center\, two human figures cling to each other in a crater of mud and blood\, a haunting reminder that war is no game. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts\, with additional support by the LaValle Experiential Learning Program.
